The application for an open work permit based on your sponsorship application is an online process, to be submitted through your IRCC account. It’s essential to use my CIC portal for this application, distinct from the PR portal where the sponsorship application was lodged.

Biometrics Fee for Spousal Open Work Permit Application

While the biometrics fee is typically associated with permanent residence applications, there’s a possibility of having to pay it again for the open work permit application if not previously requested. This involves submitting biometrics as part of the work permit application. In cases of double payment with a single biometric submission, a refund will be issued by the Canadian government, depending on prevailing biometric policies.

The standard processing time for a spousal open work permit is around four months, although actual timelines can vary based on IRCC priorities and real-world scenarios.
